70-year-old woman gives birth to first baby in India

New Delhi, India: A woman who gave birth at the age of 70 said Tuesday she was not too old to become a first-time mother, adding that her life was now complete. Daljinder Kaur gave birth last month to a boy following two years of IVF treatment at a fertility clinic in the northern state of Haryana with her 79-year-old husband

Kaur said the couple, married for 46 years, had almost lost hope of ever having a child. "God heard our prayers. My life feels complete now. I am looking after the baby all by myself, I feel so full of energy. My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can,"

Kaur said from Amritsar. "When we saw the (IVF) advert, we thought we should also give it a try as I badly wanted to have a baby of my own," she said. Kaur put her age at about 70, a common scenario in India where many people don't have birth certificates, while the clinic said in a statement that she was 72.

The baby was conceived using the couple's own egg and sperm and was now "healthy and hearty" after weighing just two kilogrammes (4.4 pounds) at birth on April 19, the National Fertility and Test Tube centre said. Kaur's husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, who owns a farm outside Amritsar, said he was unfazed about their age, saying God would watch over their child whom they named Armaan. "People say what will happen to the child once we die. But I have full faith in God. God is omnipotent and omnipresent, he will take care of everything," he said. READ MORE HERE ...

Muslims are part of Germany, but Islam is not, says senior German politician

Muslims are a part of Germany, but Islam is not, a senior German politician and close ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday.

Volker Kauder, of the Christian Democratic Union, was interviewed by local newspaper Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung in response to earlier comments by former president Christian Wulff, who asserted that Islam was a part of Germany.

Kauder said the statement, while "well-intentioned", was not factually correct.

"Just so there is no misunderstanding: the Muslims themselves are part of Germany, no question about it."

However, he said, Islam has had no role in shaping Germany "historically and culturally" and so cannot be considered an integral part of the country's culture.

Kauder also argued that, since Islam does not take one homogenous form, it cannot as an entity be said to be part of Germany.

He said that, as a diverse religion, Islam sometimes takes on forms "that we can never accept in Germany".

However, he Kauder warned against excluding Muslims, as he accused far-right populist parties of seeking to do. "It is, of course, permissible to build mosques with minarets," Kauder said. READ MORE HERE ...

Apple loses fight over iPhone trademark in China

Apple has lost a trademark fight in China, meaning a firm which sells handbags and other leather goods can continue use the name "iPhone".

The Beijing Municipal High People's Court ruled in favour of Xintong Tiandi Technology, said the official Legal Daily newspaper.

Xintong Tiandi trademarked "iPhone" for leather products in China in 2010.

Apple filed a trademark bid for the name for electronic goods in 2002, but it was not approved until 2013.

The Legal Daily (in Chinese) is widely recognised as the official mouthpiece for the country's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission. Its report came out in late April but has only just been widely circulated.
China is the second biggest market for Apple products in the world
Xintong Tiandi sells handbags, mobile phone cases and other leather goods branded with the name "iPhone" and the "R" registered trademark symbol.

Apple first brought the case against the company to the Chinese trademark authority in 2012, then when that failed, filed a lawsuit in a lower Beijing court.

But both ruled against Apple, so it appealed to the higher court.

The higher court ruled that Apple could not prove it was a well-known brand in China before Xintong Tiandi filed its trademark application in 2007.

Apple iPhones first went on sale in China in 2009. READ MORE HERE ...

Smelling Farts could work wonders for your Health: Science

It turns out you were doing your friend a favor when you cupped your hand to your butt, farted, then swiped it into their face. Same with all those times you crop dusted (the act of farting and walking at the same time thus spreading the scent over an expansive area) an unsuspecting crowd at the supermarket. According to a study, the smell of farts, or hydrogen sulfide, can have some incredible health benefits.

The study emanating from Devon, England, states that not only does farting help the farter live longer, but the smell of the farts can quell dementia. In addition to helping people remember your farting around them when they were younger, smelling farts could help with heart disease, diabetes, and even arthritis. The stinkier the better. The scientists say the risk of cancer, heart attacks, and strokes can be reduced by simply farting.

This is thanks to the ecosystem in our bowels. When you fart, you’re helping yourself out:

“When cells become stressed by disease, they draw in enzymes to generate minute quantities of hydrogen sulfide.

This keeps the mitochondria ticking over and allows cells to live. If this doesn’t happen, the cells die and lose the ability to regulate survival and control inflammation.

Researcher Dr. Mark Wood gives the key quote for you to repeat to anyone in the vicinity of your gas passing (if they have a problem with it ((they shouldn’t if they keep up on their #Science)):

“Although hydrogen sulfide is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could in fact be a healthcare hero with significant implications for future therapies for a variety of diseases.”

This stuff should be bottled.
